Sophie Dries Named Favorite Award at the AD x Land Rover Awards

This April 13, at the Grand Palais Éphémère, AD organized its first “AD Awards” with Land Rover. The opportunity to convey a common vision of design embodied in innovation, experience, elegance, reinvention and creativity. To illustrate these values, the jury of 5 AD100 designers – Christophe Delcourt, Ultimate Chic Elegance category; Constance Guisset, Endless Reinvention category; Guillaume Delvigne, Remarkable Design category; Stéphane Parmentier, Timeless Impact category and Dan Yeffet, Evolution and Innovation category – awarded 5 young designers whose work, oriented towards virtuoso design, textile research or experimentation with materials, seemed promising to us. Julie Richoz was selected by Dan Yeffet, Pauline Esparon by Christophe Delcourt, Sophie Dries by Stéphane Parmentier, Joris Poggioli by Guillaume Delvigne and Wendy Andreu by Constance Guisset. At the end of the evening, the “Coup de Coeur” award was presented to the architect and designer Sophie Dries.

Celebrating traditional techniques with contemporary twists or unexpected plays on materials, Sophie Dries takes it as an inevitably welcome recognition to see the consistency and quality of her work rewarded. The piece presented during the evening had only been exhibited once in Paris, as part of the exhibition Furniture for architects, 1960-2020 in the City of Architecture and Heritage. A piece with a particular technicality, made of mass-stained travertine thanks to a process that has nothing to do with painted concrete. This award acquires a special aspect for the designer and architect who has accumulated since 2015 and the creation of her studio a great practice of furniture and objects, giving all the importance to a field of experimental work on materials: Murano glass, marble stained, burnt carpet, papier-mâché, ceramic or plaster. A work of experimentation in the origin of objects but also of encounters with artisans and knowledge such as exhibition curators, collectors and galleries (Nilufar in Milan, L’Eclaireur in LA and Giustini/Stagetti in Rome) with whom he works give his opportunity to perform.
